Desert Dreams

Forbidden Memories

I ended up playing this game before I got to see most of the second season of the anime, so it had a rather large influence on the fic.

Principal Characters:
The Hero - Prince of the Amenhotep Dynasty (Prince Yami)
Jono/Joey - hero's friend
Teana/Téa - hero's friend
Simon Muran - hero's tutor, attendant, and card mentor
Heishin - High Mage of the Amenhotep dynasty, with something up his sleeve (enh... that's the official game descrip from the booklet, btw)
Seto - Heishin's second-in-command and hero's rival.

Summary:
The game is divided into present (Yugi's time) and past (Prince Yami's time). It begins with Prince Yami's story, which is as follows: After an evening out dueling with friends in the city, Prince Yami returns to the palace and attempts to sleep. He is awoken by a young female servant who comes to warn him that Heishin's men have stormed the palace. Her warning comes too late as two guards appear and Seto confronts the prince. Heishin has seized control of the palace and imprisoned the Pharoah and Queen. He turns up a few moments later, and praises Seto for capturing the prince. There is an opportunity for the prince to duel Heishin, but he loses, inevitably. Heishin demands that the prince lead him to the Millenium Puzzle. Simon Muran then shows up, and a battle ensues between he and Heishin, during which Simon asks the prince to smash the Puzzle to keep it from falling into Heishin's hands. Prince Yami does so, and the next scene shows him meeting Simon Muran in an Escher-drawing like place that Simon says is actually the inside of the Puzzle. Simon explains that he had to trap the prince's soul in the Puzzle to save it and him, and then he tells Yami to sleep.

The game then switches to the present day, with Yugi Mouto waking up from a strange "dream" (aka the flashback sequence with Prince Yami). He shakes it off, and turns his attention to the duelist tournament that he and Joey are waiting to participate in. There is an introduction of the game's sponsor (Kaiba) and then rules laid out (which Joey talks over, of course). The game then progresses through a series of duels, with Yugi facing many of the opponents he faced in Duelist Kingdom (see the anime section for more info), including Rex Raptor, Weevil Underwood, Mai Valentine, and Bandit Keith. He also duels all those who hold Millenium Items, including Yami Bakura, Shadi, Pegasus, Kaiba, and Ishtar (Ishizu).

Before Yugi begins to duel those who hold Millenium Items (see the Items section), he talks to Shadi, who uses his Millenium Key to help Yugi talk to Prince Yami. Prince Yami (still inside the Puzzle) reveals that he needs Yugi's help to help him return to his own time. He gives Yugi six blank cards, and as Yugi successfully defeats duelists, their Millenium Items are drawn into the cards. Once all of them have been captured, Prince Yami is freed and returned to his own time.

Back to the past. Heishin and his mages hold control of the kingdom. Prince Yami visits the empty palace, gets help from a servant who guards the burial grounds, and sets out to defeat (by card duel) the mages who hold the Millenium Items. There are two mages to defeat at each "temple," and there are six or seven temples.

And that's all I can say about that, as I haven't managed to defeat all the mages yet. >.<
